Why did the change from 6V to 12V require re-wiring?

technically it didn’t. the original wiring was a nightmare however. upping to 12 adds the bonus of easier starting, headlights that light up the road. we also added turn signals (not originally equipped). If in good condition 6 volt wire is fine for 12v.
